Principal Engineer

Principal Engineer - £140k + Bonus

We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to help shape modern software engineering practices across the organisation.

This is a hands-on role combining strong .NET backend engineering with AI and agentic development. You will work closely with development and DevOps teams to improve developer experience, build reusable platforms and libraries, establish engineering standards, and introduce AI-enabled workflows across the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and improve modern .NET / ASP.NET backend platforms, shared libraries and developer tooling.
• Promote best practices across distributed systems, microservices, testing and CI/CD.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted and agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex or GitHub Copilot.
• Develop reusable agentic components, skills, prompts and engineering patterns.
• Evaluate and support the rollout of new AI tools and models.
• Build and maintain developer resources, documentation and engineering standards.
• Run workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions to help engineers adopt new technologies.
• Work across development, platform and DevOps teams to improve developer experience and productivity.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional .NET backend experience.
• Strong expertise in modern .NET, ASP.NET, distributed systems and microservices.
• Experience building or maintaining reusable shared libraries.
• Knowledge of technologies such as gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka or Reactive Extensions.
• Experience with enterprise software development, CI/CD and testing practices.
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding or AI development tools.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering teams.
• Self-motivated, collaborative and passionate about emerging technology.

Desirable

• Platform or developer experience team background.
• Experience with Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Entra ID/OIDC or SBOMs.
• Experience creating AI/agentic workflows or reusable AI engineering components.
• Interest in commodities, energy or financial markets.
